A Newark boy and rising star in grass track racing has received £200 from consulting engineers Morgan Tucker to help him continue his sport.
Marcus Fletcher, 14, has been racing Minis for two seasons and has fallen in love with the sport. His supportive parents take him to races nearly every weekend but the financial struggle was proving difficult so Marcus's mother Sally Fletcher approached Morgan Tucker for help.
Sally said: " Marcus loves grass track racing, but the finance was proving really difficult. A Mini engine costs up to £2,500, and so it can be very expensive."
"I met Matthew Tucker and he was incredibly generous. I didn't expect him to offer us such a large sum of money, it is such a help for Marcus as the maintenance of the cars costs a lot. We are very grateful."
Marcus's sport sees stripped-out Minis, fitted with a roll cage and harness for optimum safety, and then raced on tracks in fields.
Marcus has got a real passion for racing and is proving to be a talent as well, picking up three trophies last year, along with 11 rosettes.
Marcus is also ambitious and wants to continue with his racing. Sally said: "It's great that Marcus has this hobby that he loves so much, and he is ambitious to move up the ranks, We are just very grateful to Morgan Tucker for helping us out and allowing him to continue with the sport."
Matthew Tucker, MD of Newark-based Morgan Tucker, said: "We were absolutely delighted to help Marcus. He is young, enthusiastic and obviously loves his sport, which proves to be expensive. We were happy to sponsor him, and help him in his sport."
